Self-learning and specie evolution through learning and education

(33)

Aside from many aspects of evolution, the evolution of species involves self- evolution on the qualitative natural path. There has been an adaptation of the brain to process language development while at the same time there has been the development of languages to adapt to the brain development. Languages have developed faster than the brain and explains why the computer science has developed faster in the last years as part of human being's brain/language development.

Management maturity in a Lean Six Sigma environment

Management maturity in a Lean Six Sigma environment

 (32)

Searching for answers is not always easy, but searching for examples of management maturity can become daunting. Maybe wisdom should be more appropriate to be used instead of management maturity as we do not expect to see “white hair”, but rather virtuous characters and good souls. Charles Wilson said “character is a habit, the daily choice of right over wrong; it is a moral quality which grows to maturity in peace and is suddenly developed on the outbreak of war”.

The concept of Bernoulli’s fluid flow applied in a Lean Six Sigma environment

(31)

An inviscid flow is the flow of an ideal fluid assumed to have no viscosity. The flow of fluids with low values of viscosity can not be applied close to the fluid boundary where the boundary layers have a significant role. If we consider the boundary layers as the Lean Six Sigma areas where the diverse functions meet, we can determine that only low turbulence is beneficial in creating an appropriate and controlled flow since speed will increase once the pressure decreases or the fluid potential energy decreases. Bernoulli's principle states also that if a small volume of fluid is flowing horizontally from a region of high pressure to a region of low pressure, then there is more pressure behind than in the front.

Solitude and its meaning in a Lean Six Sigma environment

(30)

Aristotle said that “solitude is his own best friend, and takes delight in privacy whereas the man of no virtue or ability is his own worst enemy and is afraid of solitude”. Virtue or ability are skills that require patience and realization that exceptional skills require time until knowledge is developed so creation can be allowed to occur. A certain maturity level requires that each one of us is capable of self-discovery that consequently increases the freedom of our thinking. Thinking that the tools learned have a short term applicability without understanding their multiple usage leads us to discard them as unuseful.

Key changes in a Lean Six Sigma environment

(29)
To be able to assist and participate directly to organizational changes, we need to know first how to honestly talk to people. We also need to understand the characteristics of each group within the organization. Plato summarizes in "Collected Dialogues" Socrates' views on how to persuade the "soul". Since there is determinant number the variability of approach results in a variety of individuals. A certain type of hearer will be easy to persuade by a certain type of speech to take such and such action for such and such reason, while another type will be hard to persuade. The person must fully understand, and next he must watch it actually occurring, exemplified in people's conduct, and must cultivate a keenness of perception instruction. People in general believe about what is plausible. And that is the same as what is probable while if actual facts do not tally to probability, nobody will care about the truth.

Desired personality in eLearning

(28)
Whenever I search in the "Digital Library for Education and Information Technology (EdITLib http://www.editlib.org/ )" for articles related to "online" training, I can only find articles using the "eLearning" term. Whenever I search the Google search engines using the term "eLearning", I can see that a higher number of searches are performed by using the term "online" ( about 1 million in Lean Six Sigma on 2012). Obviously there are differences between eLearning and online learning, but in some cases they are too subtle for users and the public at large. Creating a collaborative eLearning environment require from students the ability to create a social climate and sense of community and work synergistically using critical thinking, creativity and cooperative learning. (Bernard, Rojo de Rubalcava, & St. Pierre 2000). When students look for "online" courses their main scope is to receive an accreditation or a certificate that will help them with additional skills but the community is not happening.

Consequences when people are not encouraged to learn and implement the concepts in a Lean Six Sigma environment

(27)
Reputable companies continue to train their employees in Lean Six Sigma methodology as a continuous way to ensure cost reductions, high quality levels and human development. These companies will continue to exist above the 100 year milestone if the Executive core will have the system that rewards people who are interested and focused on continuing learning or training.
What happens with companies that do not encourage people to continually gain new skills through training, learning and implementing their new ideas? The last years economical downturns were in many cases result of poor training and lack of willingness to implement in practice the new ideas or methodologies. Another root cause was caused by management teams who wanted all the benefits of quick training without knowing how to communicate with their employees what and how to make those changes in workplace. Although learning requires that at different management and individual levels there is a culture towards human development, many companies look at their accounts rather than on how many people have been trained and how to measure the training results.
What is the solution? Although each company has their own culture, the companies who are successful know how to implement and support changes that lead to implementation first, and then control and track the changes. Based on data and most current information available from neuropsychology, neuroscience, and other disciplines that combine human body with social studies, we know that cultural diversity including language development has positive effects at brain level. The question is how many companies are in fact using the benefits of engaging and accepting cultural changes when people express themselves differently?

Cooperation and concept of forgiveness in a Lean Six Sigma environment

(26)

Cooperation in its essence is the driving force for surviving and a continue strive for life's evolution. When the first group of humans had left the African's continent more than 60, 000 years ago that researchers have found traces off, no one would have survived alone without cooperation. Just as helping one another was the key to our past success, it becomes vital to our common future. Cooperation has been mathematically demonstrated in biology, and its key dynamic system's characteristics are generous, helpful and forgiving.
In a Lean Six Sigma environment where team members do not cooperate with each other and the other companies, but rather are in an unhealthy and unfair competition, most people get exhausted while quality levels drop significantly.
John Heywood quotes "many hands make light work" gives us the ray of light that people can realize when they cooperate. The people who accept that "I will help you and someone else will help me" are belonging to the highest end of forgiveness and cooperation on the human's developmental scale.

Emotional feeling’s role in Changing Management within Lean Six Sigma environment

(25)
While in previous blogs, I wrote about emotions, cognition and the role of frontal cortex, I think that time has come to go deeper into Change Management and decision makers' emotional state. While cultural changes happen quite often in some environments, there is less understanding on how people are affected at their cognitive level when they miss emotions.
Descartes in 1628 wrote 12 rules that have constituted the basis for analysts and the subject of further discovery in neuroscience. In this case, the third rule that makes the connection to emotional feeling is : "as regards any subject we propose to investigate, we must inquire not what other people have thought, or what we ourselves conjecture, but what we can clearly and manifestly perceive by intuition or deduce with certainty" For there is no other way of acquiring knowledge". Although Descartes did not believe in a continuity between body-mind and soul, he understood that intuition leads to knowledge.

Engineering as a key driver of human development and its connection to Lean Six Sigma methodology

(24)

Needless to remind you that Lean Six Sigma metholodgy is mainly used in manufacturing industries by engineers. But the role of engineers in societies, how they model and design, or apply knowledge to prevent disasters have not been recognized sufficiently by contemporaneity. Engineers try to make things that do not exist or continually improve the ones that exist, but when they design, and back in their mind is the idea to further help the human development. Although learning and acquiring knowledge continually are part of human development, there are still some areas that refer to invention, innovation, dimensions and imagination which are very specific to engineers. They create new shapes, forms or objects.
Lean Six Sigma as a methodology uses steps to solve issues and develop solutions that are innovative. With any step taken to further develop our human knowledge we help humanity to further extend and continue our development towards common goals. What we do need to take from Lean Six Sigma methodology is that everybody can learn to become an engineer.

Emotional Literacy in Lean Six Sigma environment

(23)

I admit that the majority of us are more knowledgeable with Emotional Intelligence rather than Emotional Literacy as introduced by Weare that is ”the ability to understand ourselves and other people, and in particular to be aware of, understand, and use information about the emotional states of ourselves and others with competence. It includes the ability to understand, express and manage our own emotions, and respond to the emotions of others, in ways that are helpful to ourselves and others”. Another definition: “the practice of interacting with others in ways that build understanding of our own and others’ emotions, then using this understanding to inform our actions”. Because the meaning of emotional literacy can only manifest in an environment that is carrying about peoples' emotions which is highly interactive, it can only exist in a social and cultural context.

Estimation of Node Impurity: Gini Measure and Lean Six Sigma

(22)
Depending on the business environment or studying disciplines as neurology, networking, telecommunication or distributed systems the meaning of node differs, but generally it represents a point where more lines intersect or branch out. Nodes belong to trees and a tree can be defined locally as a collection of nodes (starting at a root node), where each node is a data structure consisting of a value, together with a list of nodes named "children" with the constraints that no node is duplicated. A tree can be defined abstractly as a whole (globally) as an ordered tree, with a value assigned to each node. Both these perspectives are useful: while a tree can be analyzed mathematically as a whole, when actually represented as a data structure it is usually represented and worked with separately by node (rather than as a list of nodes and an adjacency list of edges between nodes, as one may represent a digraph, for instance). For example, looking at a tree as a whole, one can talk about "the parent node" of a given node, but in general as a data structure a given node only contains the list of its children, but does not contain a reference to its parent (if any).http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tree_%28data_structure%29

Defining order parameters in Lean Six Sigma environment

(21)
Thermodynamic laws applied in science are part of the universal laws that govern our Universe therefore interconnectivity, chaos and order, degrees of cooperation and collaboration that we see in companies are part of the natural phenomena and its manifestation.
In the companies we refer to customer complaints, internal insatisfaction, budget deficits etc. while in science we refer to critical points beyond which we will see major changes. The flaws in the model organization do not lie in the structural implications, but rather are due to their mean-field approximations and their neglect of large fluctuations near critical points.

Dynamical system map in Lean Six Sigma

(20)
There are quite a few books where we can find terms used in Lean Six Sigma methodology. The topic is not whether we use the same technical terms since Lean Six Sigma uses knowledge of statistics, mathematics, project management, psychology, and business operations, but rather on developing new maps for Lean Six Sigma.
The map that I will refer is the map of the theory of dynamical systems, which is a map that denotes an evolutionary function used to create discrete dynamical systems. Any dynamic system has a chaotic behavior and is a generator of fractals. In evolution systems we have an evolution in time of a system.

Savvy knowledge leaders in Lean Six Sigma environment

(19)

Savvy leaders disperse knowledge because they understand that controlling knowledge diminishes value, while releasing the knowledge creates value. The questions is why don't we see in companies, organizations and countries in general a wider dispersion of knowledge.

Considering the following steps in an organization or corporation; employees must be able to acquire knowledge through learning, transfer that knowledge from his/her head into an information system, apply then the knowledge from the information system into an actionable event, manage the knowledge that implies to execute with focus, timing and precision, and then secure the knowledge like to keep it from “evaporating”.

Based on the above sequence the first step is access to learning that can be done by a company or an individual who considers that changes are required. The next step involves the use of technology which in many cases can be achieved through eLearning. The third and fourth steps are the most difficult because actions need to happen simultaneously while managing them timely with focus, engagement and precision. If we compare the above steps with a Lean Six Sigma environment they would pertain to Analyze and Improve phases. Securing knowledge involves control and a proper system that while dispersing information still allow flexibility for implementing and proposing changes. All companies and organizations can reach the highest level of knowledge since we have a process map that can be implemented.

Mitochondria and Lean Six Sigma

(18)
Mitochondria are essential components of nearly all cells in the body and are the powerhouses of cells by providing energy to carry out biochemical reactions and other cellular processes. It makes energy for cells by transforming the chemical energy stored in the food that we eat. Our food contains the building block of life known as macromolecules, mostly carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. The energy stored in the molecular bonds of these molecules is converted into a usable energy source known as ATP.

Elements of collaboration, cooperation and intellectual giftedness in eLearning Lean Six Sigma environment

 (17)

Lean Six Sigma promotes learning, mentoring and coaching for sharing knowledge, solve challenges, and increase quality levels across companies and the world. Since one of the main components is the personal aptitude for learning and continuing education, we need to emphasize on the importance of both collaboration and cooperation in an eLearning environment while considering the intellectual giftedness. One main driver in several training organizations and educational organizations have been the offering of training and certification in classes that emphasized on the cost component rather than on the collaboration, cooperation and intellectual capabilities that can be enriched only through eLearning.

Quantum entanglement in a Lean Six Sigma environment

(16)

In physics, quantum entanglement or "spooky action at a distance" defines that one object cannot be fully defined without considering the other. In statistics, but mostly in the Design of Experiments we are often interested in the effect of some process or our intervention (the "treatment") on "experimental units". Experimental units may be people, parts of people, groups of people, plants, animals, etc. Design of experiments is a discipline used in Lean Six Sigma with broad applications.

Entanglement is a property of nature. Non-locality and hidden variables are two proposed mechanisms that enable the effects of entanglement. In many designs of experiments there are occasions when the mechanics do not provide enough information therefore we need to look for hidden variables and most importantly for non-locality in other words to events that do not happen in the same "location", but that are still  connected.

Natural Laws in Economics, Principia and Lean Six Sigma

 (15)

Isaac Newton in his third book the Pricipia the "System of the world", describes the four rules of reasoning and demonstrates that the principle of gravity is in agreement with the phenomena. Newton does not assign a cause, and concludes that "to us it is enough that gravity exists". Newton's demonstration was based on induction. Adam Smith took the concept of nature as a law bound system of the matter in motion and in his model he represented society as a collection of individuals pursuing their self-interest in an economic order governed by the laws of supply and demand.

Energy, Mass and Lean Six Sigma environment

(14)

We will continue with the positive linkage between human behavior and Lean Six Sigma from previous ideas that we wrote about last week referring to the importance and role of frontal cortex development. Einstein has connected mass and energy through his formula E=mc^2. Let's assume that within a company we have 1000 people who are strongly motivated to create positive energy, and about 5 Senior Managers who have a large mass of inertia. Einstein experiment consisted in introducing photons that emitted light inside of a box. Since the box has its own mass and no outside action acted upon to move it, when photons radiated light, the box moved in the opposite direction from where the light irradiated.
Most importantly, to ensure that a significant move in a pre-determined and positive direction is made, there are many and positive momentums that need to be created in a Lean Six Sigma environment in similar ways as photons create momentums by transferring light to mass. A static box will only be moved if there are enough photons that constantly radiate a required amount of light from different directions that hopefully will not become just a constant annoyance, but rather will imprint certain behavioral changes.
