Democracy and capitalism need to be rebalancedDemocracy is under threat from capitalism. Companies are undermining democratic processes both at home and abroad. Among other things, they engage in excessive lobbying, violations of basic human rights, and collusion with repressive governments. But businesses and their leaders can also help promote democracy. Companies can have a positive influence on authoritarian governments, they can protect minorities, or even produce democracy-enhancing products and services. Companies, big and small, can therefore play a significant part in enabling democratic participation and restoring the rights of citizens. The problem is that we have too much of the former and not enough of the latter. Democracy and capitalism need to be rebalanced.Rebalance project is a collaboration between seven European universities and an international NGO. We seek to provide new insights, resources, events, and learning materials to help foster a rebalancing of capitalism and democracy. The project is funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe funding programme and Innovate UK.
This project receives funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101061342.
